Interview Process

We've designed our interview process to be transparent, fair, and engaging. Here's what you can expect:

0. Recruiter Screen - 30 minutes

  • Gain insights into GitLab and the position
  • Review your current situation and interest in the role
  • Highlight relevant skills and experience for the position
  • Outline what to expect throughout the hiring process
  • Cover logistics: location, availability, compensation, and right to work status

1. Hiring Manager Interview - 60 minutes

  • Get to know your potential manager
  • Discuss your interest in GitLab
  • Explore your previous roles and experiences
  • Answer situational questions

2. Technical Peer Interview - 60 minutes

  • Meet with a potential colleague
  • Demonstrate your DevOps understanding and knowledge
  • Discuss GitLab's values and how they align with your own
  • Share your experience with remote work

3. Panel Interview - 90 minutes

  • Conduct a simulated customer discovery discussion and tailored demonstration
  • Format: 10-15 minutes for introductions and discovery, 20-30 minutes for a tailored demo, and 15-20 minutes for discussion and Q&A
  • You'll be provided with a GitLab.com Group to use for your demo
  • Present to a panel acting as representatives from a fictional company
  • Showcase your ability to balance targeted discovery with a compelling solution demonstration
  • Approximately one week of preparation time provided

Vertical Specific Roles

For vertical focussed roles, there are different scenarios for you to follow:

4. Director Interview - Optional final round

  • This round may be included if additional insight is needed
  • Meet with leadership to discuss your potential impact

Each stage is an opportunity for us to learn about your unique experiences and skills, and for you to discover if GitLab is the right fit for your career aspirations. We encourage you to ask questions throughout the process and be yourself. Remember, we're not just evaluating you – we want you to evaluate us too!

The Panel Interview is a key part of our process, allowing you to demonstrate your skills in a realistic scenario. We'll be looking at your preparation, discovery skills, value articulation, customer engagement, industry application, demo effectiveness, and remote presence. This is your chance to shine and show us how you'd approach a real customer interaction!

Note: Most candidates complete the process after the Panel Interview. The Director Interview is an optional round that may be included in some cases for additional insight.
